![]() About the Artist Pamela Sweda |
Born and raised in Haverhill, Massachusetts, Pamela
Sweda spent her summers playing on the beaches along the New England coast
and drawing pictures. When she picked up a pencil and started to draw
before she took her first steps, Pamelas parents knew their daughter
had a gift. From those early days, the passion that has become her driving
force began to grow. Through childhood, adolescence and into early adulthood,
Pamela explored her artistic nature seeking her voice. After receiving
a degree in art education from Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg,
VA. she spent many years teaching art at both the high school and elementary
school levels. |
After years of working in multiple media, Pamela found
that watercolors were her passion. She has spent the past 15 years refining
her technique and developing her own unique style. She has focused on
portraits of people and animals, flowers she photographs from her garden
and still lifes. Combining a marvelous attention to detail with a radiant
and affectionate view of the world, a common response to her pieces is,
There is nothing dark about Pamelas work. Her portraits of people reveal
empathy and love for the human condition, while the paintings of animals
display the aesthetic charm and warmth that pets bring into our lives.
The artists love of nature is no more apparent then in her luminous treatment
of flowers. |
Her first exhibit, Watercolors in Winter, held in February
2001, marked the beginning of Pamelas public career. The one-woman show
brought enthusiastic reviews and gave the artist the impetus to make the
total commitment to her artistic vision. Now, after celebrating her 50th
birthday, Pamela Sweda is focusing on the production of her work. She
has retired from teaching art and now spends her days painting and walking
in the woods with her two Golden Retrievers, Grendel and Elijah Baley.
Her most recent show was held in October 2002 at The Outsiders Gallery,
in Litchfield, Connecticut. |

| There is nothing more magical to me than the act of working in watercolor. Watching the image I have envisioned emerge on the watercolor paper is a constant source of delight and I become transfixed by the process. I especially love it when my subjects are engulfed in light and shadows are allowed to create their mysterious and abstract shapes. My favorite subjects are people and animals as well as close-ups of flowers. I always paint from photographs which are provided by the client or are the result of a personal photographic shoot. All the materials used in the paintings are of museum quality and most of those in my personal collection are also available in Giclée prints. |
