About Me |
I
have been fortunate to have a painter for a father early in childhood.
I dabbled in water colour landscapes, with my father and also studied
the work of British water colour painters like Edward Wesson, Hilder,
and later John Pike and others. These early impressions really got me
hooked to water colour landscape paintings. |
Earlier
I did many conventional landscapes. Then I found interiors, architecture,
city scapes, city life, a lot more interesting, similar subject matter
took a back seat and elements like shapes, line composition, visual statement
became more important. However as I also do architectural illustrations,
all the exposure to rendering new glossy buildings resulted in boredom
and I developed a great interest in painting and exploring old architecture.
These old architectural subjects also called for a lot more new techniques
to experiment with textures. In search of subjects, I also travelled widely
in the coastal, western parts of India, in the Himalayas, parts of Rajastan
and also a few countries in Europe. In the future I wish to travel a lot
so as to paint more. Today, I use gouache and other mix media along with
transparent water colours. |

I have something
more to say... |
Perhaps, many have said it before, but I'd like to say it again, Painting for me is not merely about brush, paint and drawing techniques. It is love and an intense passion! Strangely, I always find myself standing in the exact center of the past and the future. I.E. at times, I'm happy with my past progress and quality and want to double it in future. But as I move on and try to do better, I realise that the amount of quality to be achieved has also increased by the double! Do you agree? I would like to express my gratitude to all those who are directly or indirectly responsible for my art being what it is today, i.e. those from whom I learned, those who inspired me and those who influenced me. Some of them are my father, artist Ravi Paranjpe, Shivaji Tupe, and many western artists (whom i saw through books only) like J.S. Sargent, Homer, E.Wesson, E. Seago, John Pike, Phillip Jemison, Bernard Dunstan, Ken Howard, Charles Reid, John Yardley and the most recent Alvaro Castagnet (oh my, he is too much). |
