Watercolor Workshops

These workshops are for anyone wishing to paint with dramatically enriched, yet believable color. Paint, have fun, and learn more than you ever imagined possible! Ken Hosmer presents two valuable learning tools: a unique color system, which is unsurpassed for developing pure transparent color schemes; and the Hosmer Design Model, a simplified way to organize and creatively interpret painting ideas. All watercolor demonstrations stress the spontaneous, splashy look.

Ken has a special gift for clearly explaining his artistic method as he paints. As a devoted teacher, he organizes ideas into simple terms and offers plenty of personal help and encouragement, making the class ideal for beginning and advanced students. A typical day might include demonstration and lecture in the morning with class work time and individual help in the afternoon. Often the class ends with a critique session.

COLOR DYNAMICS II
  • 115 minutes

Artist, Ken Hosmer, is noted for his unusual and sensitive use of vibrant color. In this outstanding video, Ken provides an in depth look at the practical use of color. He shows how to mix watercolors on the paper to avoid the "mud trap." He explains the advantages of complementary colors, swinging the color wheel, and color shifts of objects in light and shadow. The video includes two complete painting demonstrations: (1) human figures and (2) a landscape; also a demonstration of ink sketching on location.

MORE DYNAMIC COLOR
  • 119 minutes

An expansion of  additional color ideas from those presented in Color Dynamics II , this new video is for anyone wishing to paint with dramatically enriched, yet believable color. Ken focuses on three secrets to achieving color harmony and provides a practical system to organize your color thinking as you paint. He also takes you on a tour of his new color wheel of very intense tube colors. Painting demonstrations include: (1) rooster and chickens, (2) landscape of barn and trees in snow.

WATERCOLOR BASICS
  • 97 minutes

A must for the intermediate or beginning watercolor painter, this video explores important techniques, such as managing water in the brush for flow control, lifting methods, organizing the palette, stretching paper, using various types of watercolor paper, and more. Emphasis is on translating value into color. Practice exercises and a dynamic watercolor demonstration of potted geraniums in a window make this video an excellent resource.

FIGURES IN MOTION
  • 88 minutes

Ken shares his expertise on painting people in everyday settings. He discusses the importance of lost and found edges to create the illusion of motion, exaggerated light and shadow to enhance three dimensional form, and simplified backgrounds to emphasize figures. Ken's paintings of figures are uniquely alive with vibrant color and movement. Demonstrations include several ink sketching techniques and a complete watercolor painting of children.

KEN HOSMER PAINTS ANIMALS
