Purpose: To present an exhibition of excellent, original, transparent
watercolor paintings.

Barbara Nechis is a graduate of the University of Rochester with a B. A. in Fine Arts and History, and an MS from Alfred University. She was a faculty member of Parsons School of Design for many years and taught seminars at Pratt Institute throughout North American and abroad.
She is the author of "Watercolor From the Heart" and "Watercolor the Creative Experience." Her work appears in many publications and collections, among them the Butler Institue of American Art, IBM, and Citicorp. She maintained a studio in New Rochelle, NY for many years before relocatin to the Napa Valley in Northern California. |

AWARDS |
| |
| Approximately $12,000 in cash, merchandise and purchase selections will be awarded. First award: $1500. A catalog of all paintings in full-color will be produced. Purchase Selections: Watercolor West patrons agree to purchase paintings from the show for $600 with the entire amount going to the artist. Purchase Selections are identified in the catalog. ELIGIBILITY |
| |
Open to all living artists. Entries must be original and painted within the past two years. Works previously exhibited at Brea Civic & Cultural Center or Watercolor West are not eligible. Artists juried into the show must exhibit the accepted painting. Failure to do so will result in ineligibility to enter the Watercolor West show for the next two successive years.
Only transparent watercolor on a single piece of untreated rag or wood pulp paper is acceptable. No collage, ink, white paint, acrylic, gesso; no embossing. Canvas, yupo or similar paper is not acceptable.
Pencil may be used only for planning marks. Works must be framed under Plexiglas, ready to hang, with screw eyes and wire attached. Mats should be white or light colored neutral tones; a colored liner is acceptable. Maximum frame size is 48”. Works not adhering to the specifications above will not be exhibited and will be returned at the artist’s expense. |

2006 CALENDAR

| July 18 |
Deadline for slide entries. Entries received after this date will not be considered. |
| August 18 |
Notification of jury results begins. |
| September 18 |
All shipped work must be received by the Art Handler. |
| September 29 |
Hand-delivered paintings accepted at Brea Civic & Cultural Center
9 AM to Noon. |
| September 30 |
Seminar with Barbara Nechis 9 AM to 1 PM. Slide show presentation by Nechis discussing her work and each painting accepted into the show. Brea Civic & Cultural Center. Reservations suggested: 714-990-7100. |
| October 14 |
Program by Katherine Chang Liu, internationally known painter, juror, and teacher at the annual Watercolor West meeting, 3 to 5 PM. Opening reception and awards ceremony, Brea Civic & Cultural Center, 5 to 7 PM. |
| December 10 |
Watercolor West XXXVIII exhibition closes. |
| December 11 |
Pick up hand-delivered paintings 11 AM to noon. Brea Civic & Cultural Center Gallery. Shipped work picked up by the Art handler. |

| ENTRY PROCEDURE
|
| By 35 mm slide only, cardboard or plastic mount (no glass). One or two entries per artist; only one will be exhibited if selected. Reproduction for the catalog will be made from slides submitted. Be sure that only the painting appears (no mat or extraneous matter) and that color rendition is accurate. Print information on slide following the diagram below. Entry deadline: July 18, 2006. |

| FEES |
| $30 ($25 for WW members), US currency drawn on a US bank, for either one or two slides. Make check or money order payable to Watercolor West. All fees are non-refundable. |

| LIABILITY |
| Works will be handled with utmost care. Neither Watercolor West, nor the Brea Civic & Cultural Center, nor any agent will be responsible for damage or loss to any work of art submitted. Brea Civic & Cultural Center provides insurance coverage only while work is on their premises. Other insurance coverage is the artist’s responsibility. |

| SALES |
| Exhibited works will be considered for sale at price indicated on entry form. Works not for sale must be designated “NFS.” Brea Civic & Cultural Center will handle all sales and will take 30% commission. No commission is taken for Purchase Selections. |

| ACCEPTED WORKS |
| Information regarding shipping will be sent upon acceptance to the show. Works may either be hand-delivered or shipped. A $60 handling fee will be charged for paintings shipped. Shipping fees will be the responsibility of the artist. See CALENDAR section for dates. |

| RETURN |
| Work may not be removed until close of show. Art Handler will only return works shipped to him. Hand delivered work must be picked up at Brea Civic & Cultural Center on December 11, 2006, from 11 to noon. |

MEMBERSHIP IN WATERCOLOR WEST |

Three categories of membership are available: |

Sustaining Associate Membership:
Open to everyone |
| 2 |
Juried Membership:
Open to any artist who has had a painting exhibited in a Watercolor
West exhibit |
| 3 |
Signature Membership:
Open to any artist who has had a painting exhibited in three or
more Watercolor West exhibits. Only Signature members may use the
initials “WW” when signing their names. |

| Membership dues are $25 per year. Signature membership dues are $30 per year. All members receive quarterly newsletters, a prospectus for the annual exhibit, a yearly membership roster, and a free catalog of the annual exhibit. Membership dues may be included with your entry. |
