HILARY PAGE framed by
Lewis Armstrong
Portrait & Figure Workshop
Lubbock Texas October 2003:
During the final critique, I
photographed each participant (25
in all! ) next to her/his painting
which I framed in the mat shown.
At the end, in a lighthearted
moment, my friend Lewis matched
my effort by framing me!

BIO. HILARY PAGE: Originally from England, I came to the USA in 1966 after graduating from Drama school in
London. My portfolio of costume and stage designs won me a job at a commercial art studio in Indianapolis where I
also attended a couple of evening classes at the John Herron School of art. Later I taught elementary school in New
York City! After a hiatus for marriage and children, I returned to my artwork.
Residing in Houston, Texas I became known for my acrylic murals in homes and businesses and was featured on
several television shows in this regard. At this time I began watercolor painting and for a time served as Administrative
Director for the Watercolor Art Society-Houston. I started teaching watercolor in the early 1980's.
I still live in Houston with my husband; and with the kids now grown I divide my time between painting, writing and
teaching workshops. Recently I've taken up sculpture ! I also like to work in the garden while my three cats play, surf
the internet for art sites and listen to the BBC world service radio!
My work can be seen at my Internet Galleries : Gallery Portrait and Figure , Gallery and Gallery 2000. |

| "My Mother at 93" 30"X22" Watercolor
Elderly people make great subjects for portraits and they don't mind sitting either!
The wrinkles are not lines. They are "like rivers running through a valley." (Robert Beverly Hale) and should be painted as such. Since wrinkles form at right angles to the pull of muscles- if you know your wrinkles then you know the muscles of facial expression!
Please email me if you would like me to do a portrait for you, and then we can work out the logistics. |

Nude 22"X30" Watercolor
The afternoon I did this painting there was a cloudburst in Houston so only two of us from our lab group, the totally dedicated (or crazy) came to paint , meaning that we both had a very good positions regarding the model and the lighting. The beautiful violet color is Cobalt Violet PV49 made by Daniel Smith Inc.
