Mary Ann Pope
Watercolors I love color. My paintings, of landscape, may be considered to be "realistic" but they are made of sharp areas of color, not realistic color but idealized or intensified color to give the greatest impact to the vision I have of a particular landscape. My work has been accepted into more than 70 national, competitive exhibitions in which they've received over 30 awards. I'm a member of the National Watercolor Society, Watercolor USA Honor Society (Vice President), Kentucky Watercolor Society, Watercolor Society of Alabama (President, 1995), and the Georgia Watercolor Society. Paintings have been in over 20 one-man and invitational exhibitions at galleries and museums and work has been included in the Arts in Embassies program, U.S. State Department. SELECTED PUBLIC COLLECTIONS; Fine Arts Museum of the South, Mint Museum of Art, Huntsville Museum of Art, Isabel Anderson Comer Museum of Art, AmSouth Bank, GTE, IBM, McGraw Hill, Kaiser Permente, State Farm Insurance, TVA, Winton Blount Inc., Zerox.
I began painting areas in the ring of mountains around the city I live in, but am traveling more and more, mostly throughout the South, to paint the most elemental, striking views I can find. There's a lot to choose from but some of it is disappearing to development at a alarming rate...which gives more urgency to my searches.
