Artist's Statement My style of painting is based upon the philosophy of emphasis on the spirit opposed to producing a literal reproduction. The impression the painter received when viewing an object or landscape, not the imitation of it, is of importance. With heart and hand working in unity, this is a style in which the painter learns to see and to feel. There is no preliminary drawing or erasing with this technique, only starting over until one achieves a pleasing and balanced composition. I am a board member of the Oriental Brush Artists Guild, based in North Salem, NY. I am a co-founder of the Boone Dog Artists, a networking alliance of artists based in Brewster, NY. I teach beginning Oriental brush painting at the Croton/Cortlandt Center for the Arts, Cortlandt Manor, NY, and at the Yasuragi Center, Mahopac, NY. My work is recurrently featured at the Flat Iron Gallery, Peekskill, NY, and at Cirque d'art, Bedford Hills, NY. My paintings are on exhibit in collaboration with calligrapher Sharon Nakazato at the Yasuragi Center, Mahopac, NY. My paintings are included in a group exhibition during the month of August 2004 at the Boone Dog Coffeehouse, Brewster, New York.
