Wildlife and Nature art in watercolor

Beginning at the age of 10, Karen realized that she had a very special artistic gift. Since that time, she has taught herself to utilize the talent given to her and, in addition to a biology degree, she has studied with a number of prominent contemporary artists, including Robert Bateman, Carl Brenders, Daniel Greene, Guy Coheleach, Daniel Smith, Terry Isaac, Bruce Miller, Paco Young, Wilhelm Goebel, Wayne Trimm, John Seerey-Lester, Jessica Zemsky, and Jack Hines. (Additionally scheduled in 2004 - Matthew Hillier and John Banovich). Developing her own style through many hours of study of techniques and creating those of her own, Karen has continually worked to improve her art. "The best artist never stops learning.", Karen says. "There is always some way to better your art. You must keep an open mind and be willing to change your work as needed. Many pieces keep evolving as they progress and end up quite the learning experience." Her daughters have followed her into their own achievements, including Rebecca's 2nd place in the 1998 Federal Junior Duck Stamp Competition as well as a winning entry in the 2003 Minnesota Turkey Stamp Competition, and Bonnie's winning design of the 2000 Federal Junior Duck Stamp. They have both been selected by US Art Magazine as Next Generation artists featured in the October, 2000 issue. Karen, Rebecca, and Bonnie recently placed 3rd, 9th, and 10th in the 2002 Federal Duck Stamp Competition, each painting their version of the ring-neck duck. Karen took 9th place in the 2003 competition with a Rossí Goose.
