DORIS MEE

Doris Mee lives in Harwich, Massachusetts, on Cape Cod.  She paints and teaches there as well as in Florida.  Doris is an award-winning artist. Within the past 4 years, she has won a Best of Show, First Place in 3 regional shows, placed First in both a National and an International Exhibition, and received Honorable Mentions in several juried shows.

Doris considers herself a “self-taught” artist, although she has studied with many nationally recognized teachers.  She began painting in transparent watercolor about 15 years ago.  She now often mixes watercolor, acrylic, and collage in the same painting.  “I’ll use whatever makes it work”, says Doris.  When painting on location, she still often uses transparent watercolor, but in the studio and when doing non-representational work, she usually uses acrylic.  “I love intense color and strong value changes in my work, and I find this can be best achieved with either fluid or full-bodied acrylics.”

of joy and creativity with each painting, which I hope to share with the viewers of my work”

Doris exhibits in galleries in Florida and in her native Massachusetts, on Cape Cod.  Her work is included in numerous collections, nationally and internationally.

Doris has a strong following for her workshops, enrolling many repeat students over the years.  She teaches experimental water-media and collage.  “We have a lot of fun in the workshops – and make good art while we’re at it.”
