C. J.
Adams was not just satisfied with dreaming and painting about the tropics - she
lives there. A few years after graduating with honors from the California
College of Arts and Crafts, Ms. Adams and her husband moved to an island in
Micronesia. From her studio in Saipan Ms. Adams created extraordinary
watercolors depicting the deep Pacific
experience.
Not
satisfied with just having a lucrative career as a watercolorist Adams sought
to broaden and deepen her experience as an artist. She returned to the Mainland
U.S. and studied under Grace Hartigan at the Maryland Institute College of Art.
She received her MFA in Painting in 2001. She couldn't escape the lure of the
Pacific, however, and now makes her home in Maui in the Hawaiian Islands. |

| With an exciting
blend of technical expertise and a passion for abstract patterns, Ms. Adams
creates sensual and dramatic botanical images, landscapes and still lifes. The
images are multi-layered; from decorative to symbolic and contemplative
reflecting not only the tenuous life on an island, but the universal truths
recumbent in all plant life. |

| She is a native
of Long Beach, California. In 1996 she was chosen for signature membership in
the National Watercolor
Society. |

Statement:
"I love the dialogue that I have with watercolor. I manipulate the water and pigment as it allows and then I give it its way. I push too hard and it escapes me. I hold on too tight and it dies in my arms. I ask for a certain wash and it gives me a miracle. I ask for too much and it stops. It is rare that I can take back what I say. There are times when I don't talk at all and I just see what happens. I have faith that something wonderful will come of my silence. I depend upon watercolor for the commutation of my humanity to whatever is out there beyond myself. And finally, it is through this watery medium that I see myself with the most clarity. "
